Comer’s Falls
Starting mile 504.5
It was a cold morning. When I got up it was in the upper 30s and when I got out of the trees, I had a constant 10 to 15 mph wind. I had to keep moving just to stay warm. When I made it to the Scales Campground I came across some Trail Magic. I was able to get something warm to eat and drink as well as a fire going. It was a nice little break, but I had to get going because I was getting cold.
After Trail Magic I had a long downhill as I made my down it started to warm up a little. If it didn’t really warm up at least the wind died down. I made it down the to the river and what looks like a new bridge. After crossing the river, I had my one big climb for the day. The next week or so should be a relatively easy week of hiking. The climb up Hurricane Mountain wasn’t that hard and I was able to make the 1,000 foot climb quickly.
After this climb it was mainly downhill for the next few miles before heading up to Comer’s Falls. This was the second significant climb, but it was only a 500-foot climb. Once I past the falls I had another descent before a final push up to Trimpi Shelter where I stayed for the night.
I made it 20.1 miles with about 3,400 feet of elevation gain. It was a cold day of hiking with another cold night to come.
Ending mile 524.6
