Appalachian Trail Adventure

Join me on my journey as I document my experiences hiking the Appalachian Trail in 2026, sharing insights and stories along the way.

This blog will follow me as I journey the 2200 miles from Springer Mountain in Georgia to Mount Katahdin in Maine. I will be posting a daily photo as well as my milage and a quick little blurb about the day. I will try to capture the experience of walking through the mountains while capturing the beauty of the Appalachian Mountains.

Frequently Asked Questions

What inspired you to hike the Appalachian Trail?

I started backpacking in the early 90’s as a Boy Scout. Since then I’ve backpacked all over the country, but I’ve always wanted to do the A.T. Now I have the chance.

How long do you plan to hike the trail?

The plan is to finish in about 4 months starting on March 25. This will get me to Katahdin by the end of July. This equates to just over 18 miles per day.

What gear will you be using for the hike?

I will be carrying everything I need on my back. My base weight (all my gear minus food and water) will be about 12 lbs. Fully loaded my pack will be around 20 lbs. See my post on my gear.

Will you be hiking alone or with a group?

I am starting on my own, but the A.T. is a very social trail so I will meet a lot of people. At some point I will form a group of friends that move at the same pace I do and will hike with them.
