Knowing I only have 12.2 miles to my next camp I slept in. By sleeping in I really mean that I laid in my hammock for about two hours before finally getting out. I was a blessing to catch a nice sunrise without even getting out of bed.

When I finally got going, I was able to make great time because the trail was so good. About an hour into the morning, I came across two people walking the other direction carrying a twelve-foot cross cut saw. They were on their way to take care of a couple of blow downs on the trail and since this was a Wilderness area they couldn’t use a chainsaw. I thanked them for their work and moved on. The trail wouldn’t exist without people like them maintaining them so I always make sure to thank them for their effort.

Just like yesterday the first four miles was easy hiking. Then we had a big climb. The climb up didn’t seem so bad as I switch backed up the mountain. Then it hit me, over 400 feet of elevation gain in about a quarter of a mile. It was slow going up to the top but I finally made it to the cheers of the couple of guys ahead of me. I made it to the top of Albert Mountain and in the process made it to mile marker 100. It was a big day.

From the top of Albert Mountain, it was a nice six-ish mile hike mostly downhill. I crossed a nice stream about two miles down to refill with water, then it was non-stop into camp about four miles later. It was probably the earliest I’d gotten into camp. Tomorrow is a nice easy four-mile hike to Franklin NC and another night in a hostel.

Ending milage 105.9
